Hey Paisanos! Welcome back for another mission with your fellow Couch Commandos! This one has been a fun one. We pit the now infamous 1993 Super Mario Bros live-action movie against ILLUMNATION’s now BILLION DOLLAR BLOCKBUSTER Super Mario Bros. I definitely think ILLUMNATION was the way to go, but there’s a lot to be said for the interesting creativity that comes from wild creations like what happened in 1993. Click in and enjoy! Gamescom 2017: Nintendo Switch Getting Special Rocket League Cars

One of the biggest surprises at E3 2017 was that Psyonix was going to bring their popular title Rocket League to the Nintendo Switch. Since then, fans have been wondering what the version will have, and what it won’t have. Psyonix has said it will have ALL the features of the other games, but, it will also have exclusive things to the Nintendo Switch version. And, at Gamescom 2017, a new trailer for these special cars was shown, and they’re awesome. Basically, the cars are getting a new paint job of sorts, and will be stylized after Mario, Luigi, and Samus Aran. And though we shouldn’t do favorites…the Metroid car is awesome. Rocket League will arrive on Nintendo Switch this Holiday season.

Luigi’s Mansion Arcade Game Will Exist

I just checked the calendar and it’s not 2013, but Luigi’s biggest gig yet will be happening in the near future as the humble, cowardly plumber’s assistant gets a star turn in his very own arcade game. This marks the first coin-op appearance of Luigi since Super Mario Bros. Vs, a two-player rejiggering of the NES original…and certainly his first without Mario. Luigi’s Mansion Arcade takes place in a first-person perspective. The player is given a vacuum cleaner hose as a weapon and must shake it at the screen to evade and entrap ghosts whenever they appear. You’ll see Luigi every so often when he appears in cutscenes, and Professor E. Gadd will appear in the opening tutorial. Other than that, not much else is known about the game, but presumably it will be similar to the previous two games in the series, just with a different camera. A new Mario and Luigi RPG has been announced. Mario and Luigi Dream Team will be taking place entirely in Luigi’s wildest dreams which will mean he’s going to be the most prominent and powerful character in the game. Finally little bro is getting some spotlight.

E3 Post-Mortem: Nintendo

I’ll be blunt here; Nintendo’s in trouble. It’s been a hard crash for them. Wii sales fell off of a cliff, and the 3DS has faced challenges in the marketplace. Nintendo had to cut prices far earlier than anticipated, and the company is losing money for the first time ever. But there was a beacon of hope on the horizon, their new console – the Wii U. Wii U’s defining feature is a gamepad with an embedded touchscreen, sort of recreating the DS experience with a console setup. While the touchscreen is the main controller, Wii remotes can be used as well, and the console finally supports HD visuals. Beyond that and a few demos, large questions remained about the WiiU. That would be saved until this year. Nintendo had said beforehand that no price or date would be revealed at E3, but more concrete details on the system itself, and the exciting new games for the console, would be there.
