The Punisher was without a doubt one of the biggest breakout stars from the Marvel/Netflix collaborations. And that’s saying something, as there’s been a lot of great characters in those series. However, Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, was brought in as a side character for Season 02 of Daredevil, then was so beloved by fans and critics that he got greenlit for his own series, which aired last November to much critical acclaim. Then, less than a month later, it got approval for a second season, which apparently is going to film very soon. According to Spoiler TV, the second season of Punisher is going to start filming on February 26th, then will finish in July. The question here is when the season itself will air. We know that Jessica Jones returns in March, Luke Cage is set to arrive later this year, Daredevil Season 03 is in the works now, as well as Iron Fist Season 02. One of the things that the Marvel Cinematic Universe emphasizes is that eventually, everyone comes together. That’s been proven via the Avengers films, and even Captain America: Civil War. When the Marvel/Netflix collaborations came to be, the plan was for four shows series to be done. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Then, after all of those were done, they would team up for Defenders. But, during Daredevil Season 02, fans were so happy with Jon Bernthal’s performance as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, that they wanted to see more. Thus, the two companies agreed to make a Punisher series, which is set to air on Friday. Now, when the Defenders was filmed (which was well after Daredevil Season 02), there was rumors that Frank would show up to assist them, but he didn’t. When Daredevil Season 02 got details, many were happy to see that The Punisher was going to make an appearance. Though the character has had live-action interpretations before, none of them resonated with fans. After the arrival of the Defenders, the Marvel/Netflix collaborations officially began their “Phase 2” and that would start with The Punisher. Though a release date was not given (and still hasn’t been given) we do know it’ll arrive this year. But when? Well, all eyes were on New York Comic Con to reveal that as a major panel was planned to show off the upcoming series and likely reveal more details about it. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Due to the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, Marvel and Netflix have decided to not to show the series at the show this year, in a joint statement the two said: “We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. One of the things that was apparent when Marvel and Netflix teamed up was that it had a very connected universe. And in fact, some of the Defenders showed up in each other series in one way or another. Easily one of the fan favorite characters of Daredevil Season 02 on Netflix was Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Recently, Jeph Loeb of Marvel Television revealed that there wasn’t a plan for the Punisher to get his own solo series on Netflix. This has disappointed some fans, while others are confident it may still happen based on what may happen with Daredevil Season 02. The Marvel/Netflix collaboration has been a boon for many of the comic book companies lesser known characters, or ones that have been needed to be reborn.
