With the new Voltron: Legendary Defender TV series on Netflix winning over new fans, it’s never been a better time to get invested in robots that combine with other robots to form giant robots. Voltron has always held mass geek appeal, and is no stranger to the collectible figurine scene. Now Bandai Shogukan has announced a new figure, a Voltron Super Mini-Pla (model kit) that fans can assemble themselves. The kit snaps together and requires no glue. The legendary hero from one of the greatest giant robot anime action series of the 1980s returns in collectible form in an impressive new model kit that stands more than 7 inches tall when completed. The Black Lion, Red Lion, Green Lion, Blue Lion, and Yellow Lion are each fully articulated and poseable and combine together to form the iconic Voltron robot. Ok, just so I can get this out of the way, I STILL hate how Netflix is handling Voltron in terms of episode count. While the first few seasons were full-on 13-episode seasons, the recent “seasons” have been either 6 or 7. It’s honestly very frustrating, and this trend continues with Voltron Legendary Defender Season 05, which is a mere 6 episodes long. This means, if you binge it, you’ll be done in two hours. It’s really annoying, and I’d rather have the full season than two halves of one. But…if you look past that though, you’ll find this is probably the best “season” of the bunch. WARNING: Spoilers for Voltron Legendary Defender Season 05 ahead! For while previous half seasons have been clearly chopped without rhyme or reason, this one feels like it had more intent in its design. For the first time, there are no filler episodes. In fact, the best you could say is that there’s a “filler b-plot”, and even then, it’s WAY better than previous filler episodes.

I’m of two minds about Voltron Legendary Defender, especially this fourth season. On one hand, the writers clearly know when to bring the intensity, the game-changing episodes, the great moments, the beautiful music and more. But…then there’s times where I have no idea what they’re doing, and part of that is the reason why Voltron Legendary Defender Season 04 is so confusing. Now, to be clear, this is a good season. In fact, I’d rate it higher than Season 03, and rightfully so, but it had to overcome some serious flaws to get to that point. Not the least of which is the fact that this season…is six episodes. So to be fair…it’s not even a full season. The reasoning behind this baffled me. Yes, we got “season 03” in August and that was cool, but is waiting two months or so to get the full 13-episode season really that hard to do? Especially given how the last “season’ ended? Voltron Legendary Defender is easily becoming one of the best seasonal shows on Netflix, I mean that knowing (and seeing) all the Marvel shows. In a way, it’s becoming as popular as it was in the 80’s when it first released, and that’s saying something. Fans have eagerly waited for Season 03 to arrive, and it’s finally here. The problem, is that though you could argue that these episodes are some of the best the series has ever offered, it has some very fatal drawbacks. WARNING: FULL SPOILERS AHEAD!! SERIOUSLY!!! SPOILERS APLENTY!!!!! ….still here? Ok good. So, right off the bat, the team had to deal with two major threats. One, Shiro is missing, and Voltron can’t form without a pilot of the Black Lion. And two, Prince Lotor has come, and through his new leadership, the Paladins are arguably facing an even more dangerous threat. UPDATE!!!!: Teaser for Season 03 shown! Trailer below! Voltron: Legendary Defender has become a big hit among the Netflix original series. Taking the legendary franchise and showing it off to a new age. But, there has been some big gaps between seasons. With the latest set to end on August 4th. At San Diego Comic Con, a panel for the show was held, and some interesting tidbits were revealed. First off, the next season will only be 7 episodes long, a far cry from the 12-13 we’ve gotten before. However, this was apparently intentional, as the team wanted to have smaller seasons so that they can bring more to you in less time. How so? Well, Season 04 of the show will debut in October. “It will carry you through the dark times,” Executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos noted One of the big things coming in this upcoming season is the rise of Lotor, the son of Zarkon. “Lotor has a completely different approach than Zarkon had,” co-executive Lauren Montgomery shared.

Netflix has revealed that a third season of Voltron: Legendary Defender is coming, and it’s coming soon. In fact, it’s coming August 4th, and to celebrate, they’ve released the first trailer for season 03. What’s apparent right off the bat is that the events of the Season 02 finally are still in full effect. Shiro is still missing, and that means that Voltron can’t form, which is a problem…because though Zarkon is done for now, his son is about to step into the light. While it’s clear that Voltron will come back, it’s interesting to see that those within the Galra empire, including ones who helped the Paladins last season, are coming back, and in force. You can of course expect to see epic action, lots of comedy, and a deep story. I fully admitted that when I watched the first season of Voltron: Legendary Defender, it was my first time ever watching a Voltron cartoon. I knew who Voltron was loosely, but I didn’t know the characters or worlds. All that being said, I loved the first season, and when Season 02 came out, I was eager to watch that as well. Thankfully, the season is just as good as the original. However, it doesn’t really improve upon it. WARNING: Some Spoilers Ahead! After being separated at the end of Season 01, the Paladins of Voltron have to use their wits and survival skills in order to get back together. And they do. In fact, the opening episodes are dedicated to this. In fact, multiple times in this season, the team is divided so individual goals can be met. DreamWorks TV and Netflix have released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of Voltron: Legendary Defender. You can check out the new video in the player below. The upcoming season picks up right where the previous season left off. After a perilous battle with Zarkon, the Voltron team has been scattered across the universe, and they are left struggling to regroup. Meanwhile, Zarkon, Haggar, and the nefarious Galra Empire seek to locate the Voltron force and put a stop to this threat once and for all. The Paladins of Team Voltron now have to work to bring the lion robots back together in order to form Voltron and defeat the Galra Empire. Their quest takes them across the universe in search of new worlds and some very unexpected allies. Though officially confirmed in January, and hinted to be coming to Netflix before the end of the year, New York Comic Con revealed that Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 02 will debut in January. Not many details were given about season 02’s story, or how it will reflect what happened at the end of season 01. Nor was there a definitive date given. If you recall, at the end of Season 01, after barely saving Allura, and losing a battle against Emperor Zarkon himself, the Paladins tried to escape via the Castle of Lions away from Zarkon’s fleet. But in the process, their wormhole was hit, and the rupture caused them all to get separated and sucked into parts unknown. For many, Voltron is a fond memory from their childhood. In the US, Voltron came before Power Rangers, Beetleborgs, or many of the 90’s shows that had teenagers using mechs of some kind to combine together and save the world. Yet, because it was in the 80’s, some don’t remember what Voltron was, or why it was so influential. Now, thanks to DreamWorks, Voltron is back, via a Netflix series, that brings the legendary robot into the modern era and with great results. Full disclosure, because I was born in the late 80’s, I didn’t know about Voltron outside of an action figure my cousin had. So for me, this was a fresh experience, and I think it was better that way. It allowed me to view the series with fresh eyes and no bias. I believe this was part of the reason I liked it so much. Voltron made its long awaited return via the Netflix Series Voltron: Legendary Defender. It debuted with an 11-episode season in June, and ended on quite a cliffhanger. Now, via SDCC and a tweet, we can confirm that Voltron will not only be getting a second season, but it will debut this year! “Season 2 is coming late 2016! #Voltron #SDCC16” The show was very well received by fans and critics, not in the least because of the solid voice acting talent and the development team which included several veterans from the Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra teams, including the animation studio Team Mir. When more details are released on the second season we’ll let you know. And stay tuned for our review of Season 01!
