Telltale Games set to make Marvel titles
Marvel and Telltale Games have officially announced in an event at San Francisco that it has signed an agreement with Telltale Games to create graphic adventure games based on the properties it owns. The first title will be available in 2017 for several platforms, but neither Marvel nor the developer has stated what the game is and what characters it will include. Although the timing suggests it may tie-in with the Infinity Wars movies that are set to release in 2018 and 2019.
The move comes as Marvel attempts to release games that focus more on storytelling rather than simply action. The partnership with Telltale Games will allow the Disney owned company to release games that are authentic, with gripping plots and an experience that fits in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Telltale Games was founded in 2004 by a number of ex-LucasArts employees who had previous experience in creating graphic adventure games such as the Monkey Island series. Although they have released other games from different genres, such as Poker Night, they have tended to focus on adventure games and have moved on from series such as Sam & Max and CSI to The Walking Dead and Back to the Future.
The Marvel announcement is not unique for Telltale Games as they have recently worked with a number of high profile franchises, including Game of Thrones, Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us and Minecraft. It also follows a period of rapid growth for the company, with the number of staff increasing along with the number of projects being worked on.
