The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth DLC Coming In October
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is set to receive its first piece of DLC in October with the release of the large expansion pack Afterbirth. According to a blog post by the developer, the content will be available from October 30 on Steam although console versions of the game will have to wait a little long before they will get the DLC.
The pack will add more than 100 hours of gameplay to the game, with new bosses, weapons, levels and unlockables. It will also bring a brand new game mode and an additional playable character, while also introducing challenges, daily quests, more than 120 new items and over 1,000 new rooms.
“Trust me when I say, this DLC makes Rebirth feel like a completely new game,” McMillen wrote. “It’s rare that I design a game that I really look forward to play testing daily. You guys will really love it!”
The Binding of Isaac was first released in 2011 by Edmund McMillen, one of the two-man studio Team Meat that produced the incredibly successful Super Meat Boy. The original game was built in Flash and saw its own DLC expansion in the form of Wrath of Lamb, which added new bosses, items, endings and levels and unlockables.
Due to its unexpected success, McMillen approached developer Nicalis, who were previously responsible for porting over versions of Cave Story and Dance Dance Revolution to new platforms, about remaking the game in a more advanced game engine to improve its graphics and eliminate many of the bugs that were present in the original version. Rebirth included all of the content from both The Binding of Isaac and Wrath of the Lamb along with a selection of new content. It is now available on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS and Xbox One, though some territories have restricted access to the title.
