The Good Dinosaur Goes Through Major Voice Cast Changes
Walt Disney Studios has announced a new main voice cast for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature, The Good Dinosaur. Unfortunately, this means that a number of actors who were originally set to play certain roles have been re-cast. At the 2013 D23 Expo, a number of actors were announced for the film’s main roles. A number of those roles have now been changed.
Speaking on the announcement, director Peter Sohn stated: “We were lucky to work with a number of incredible pros along the way and our story ultimately led us to this amazing and talented group. We’re all taking this journey with Arlo, and it’s been a privilege to see these performers bring our characters to life.”
Previously, Disney and Pixar announced at the Expo that Lucas Neff, John Lithgow, Frances McDorman, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer and Bill Hader had all been cast in main roles for the film. Lucas Neff has now been replaced in the cast by Raymond Ochoa (The Night Shift, Rizzoli & Isles) in the role of Arlo. Jeffrey Wright replaces John Lithgow as Poppa, Arlo’s father. Harris, Greer and Hader were all set to voice the three siblings of Arlo’s character. However, those characters have been cut, and there will only be one brother for Arlo, Buck, voiced by Marcus Scribner.
Also new to the cast are: Steve Zahn (Rescue Dawn, Mad Dogs) as the pterodactyl Thunderclap, AJ Buckley (Murder in the First) as the T-Rex Nash, Anna Paquin (X-Men, True Blood) as the T-Rex Ramsey, Sam Elliott (The Big Lebowski, Ghost Rider) as a T-Rex named Butch, Frances McDormand stays in her original role of Arlo’s mother Momma and Jack Bright (Monsters University) voices Arlo’s human friend Spot.
The Good Dinosaur envisions a world where the asteroid that made the dinosaurs extinct never struct the Earth. An Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.
The Good Dinosaur hits theaters on November 25.
