There Will Be More Super Smash Bros DLC Characters
Source Gaming translated an interview in the latest Weekly Famitsu with Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai where he spoke about the recent additions to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and his plans for the future of those games, which isn’t over yet….
“There is a fighter ballot on the official Smash for Wii U/3DS website. We’ve received an extremely large number of votes, but of course, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were in development even before the ballot was created. I had a grasp on their popularity and demand, though. From now until the end, it is going to be fan service, but I can’t keep the development team together forever, so there’s only going to be several more characters. I also ask for your patience, as we need time to develop more content.”
The latest update to the Smash Bros. roster went up this month and added Lucas from Mother 3, Roy from Fire Emblem (and Smash Bros. Melee) and Ryu from Street Fighter. These came as no surprise since they were revealed by a fan analysis of the data inside a Japanese update to the Smash Bros firmware months ago. But it is relieving to get confirmation that it won’t stop there.
Whoever is coming next is anyone’s guess. Sakurai didn’t drop any major hints in Famitsu, and from the sound of his tone, it may be a while before the characters he has in mind are functional enough for a leak to be possible. Unofficial surveys online indicate Shantae, Shovel Knight, Bayonetta and Banjo-Kazooie (which has Microsoft’s blessing) are the most popular ideas. Other voices are calling for the return of Solid Snake or the Ice Climbers, though the latter will likely not happen this gen due to the 3DS’ inability to render both characters at once.
