Tom Hardy Actually DID like the Suicide Squad Script?
In our modern age, it is really, REALLY easy for a rumor to become a trend, a trend to become gospel, and thus is held as true. This is especially true in the world of entertainment, where rumors of who’s in and who’s out are as big as the reveals of the movies themselves.
When Suicide Squad was announced, one of the big castings was Tom Hardy. Not just because he’s a good actor, but he had already been in the realm of DC when he did Bane for The Dark Knight Rises. Then, he left the movie. At the time, there were two reasons being tossed around. The first was that he had a scheduling conflict with an upcoming movie called The Revenant. The other was that he hated the script, felt his character (Rick Flagg) didn’t have enough screen time, and thus wanted nothing to do with the movie.
Wanna guess which one was believed?
Yep, the latter one. Well now, Tom Hardy himself talked to Collider about what happened. And surprise, surprise, the real reason he left, was because of the scheduling conflict. But don’t take my word for it…
NOTE: When he says “Alley”, he means: really, really good. Note over.
“Warner Brothers is my home studio and I love them so I was really bummed out. I wanted to work on that and I know the script is really f@#king alley and I also know what’s gonna happen with The Joker and Harley Quinn in that; I won’t give away too much… it’s f@#king alley. And that whole territory is something that I would certainly — I mean, everybody loves The Joker. Everybody loves The Joker. Will Smith is a dope guy, but everybody loves The Joker and that’s gonna, I think, be a very important film for fans.”
Still don’t believe it? Well…he went on about how The Revenant got in the way of Suicide Squad:
“There’s a very practical element as to why I’ve missed out on that foray, which is because Alejandro [G. Inarritu] has overshot by three months in Calgary, so we’ve got to go back out to Patagonia or Alaska to continue shooting The Revenant which has turned into a much bigger beast than we thought, but that also looks exceptional. Literally we wrapped in Calgary for now until we go back in July. It would have smashed the two, I would’ve had a beard. It was just not gonna happen so I got ass-slammed technically out of Suicide Squad, gutted, so I had to hand it over to Joel Kinnaman, who will do an amazing job. It’s just I got bumped out, and that’s cool that’s the way it is.”
So there you go, no ill will between the two. And based on what he said? Suicide Squad looks to be very alley…
