Tomorrowland Trailer Reveals Robots, Rockets and Rayguns
Walt Disney Studios has unveiled the second trailer for the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure film Tomorrowland, from Academy Award winning director Brad Bird. The latest video, which shows more of Tomorrowland and more of the plot than has ever been seen before, is available below.
One thing that was noticeably absent from the trailer, at the Tomorrowland presentation and exhibit at the 2013 Disney D23 Expo, there were hints and suggestions that Tomorrowland would play off of a whole hidden history for Disneyland, the Imagineers and Imagineering and Walt Disney. There were artifacts and hints of hidden rooms and secrets to Disney landmarks that would play into the plot of the story. In fact the title of the film and the city depicted in the story seem to be based in some part on Walt Disney’s vision of Tomorrowland, which first opened at Disneyland in 1955. Since the trailers and clips so far seem to be downplaying or ignoring those elements, one wonders if they even made it into the film.
The new footage offers some bigger reveals for the mystery-shrouded film than ever before. Young Casey (Britt Robertson) appears to have been chosen for some mission to save the world, and she seeks help from the jaded former boy genius Frank (George Clooney). They are both pursued by some nefarious bad guys who are trying to stop them, and these villains are packing some serious rayguns. Of course, the trailer shows more of the big money set piece of a rocket blasting off from the Eiffel Tower (so that is what it was really for). In addition, it looks like the film will even have some giant robots battling it out in some form as well.
Tomorrowland stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson. The film hits theaters on May 22.
