When In Japan, Dine At The Capcom Cafe
Capcom has announced the first cafe to bear its name will open at the Aeon LakeTown shopping mall in Koshigaya, Japan.
The Capcom Cafe will not only sell the typical offerings of a Japanese cafe, but will also sell Capcom merchandise not available outside the cafe itself. It will also contain a special demo machine that will allow visitors to preview the latest games from the company.
Why does Capcom need a cafe? According to them, it’s for “maximizing the value of [our] IPs and creating new opportunities for revenue while working to further enhance [our] performance.” Naturally, the cafe will be promoting Capcom’s latest games whenever they’re about to be released….starting with Monster Hunter X, which released in Japan on November 28. During launch week the cafe will play host to “large-scale panel displays of monsters on the walls” and “monstrously stylized menu items.”
Capcom has opened mall outlets in the past: it currently runs amusement arcades called “Plaza Capcom,” a themed food store and a children’s play area called “Asobi Oukoku peekaboo.” The Capcom Cafe opens November 20.
