Will Game of Thrones End After Season 8?
Game of Thrones has been something special for HBO. Fans have flocked to it, and the show has received numerous honors. However, with Season 6, the producers are entering new territory, as the books are no longer “in play”. They have an outline from creator George R.R. Martin, but that’s about it. They’re on their own. And many wonder how long they can go on like that. With rumors that the show would only go to season seven then stop. Well, at the Television Critics Association’s Press Tour (via IGN), HBO President Marc Lombardo said the following in regards to the possibility to go beyond a seventh season:
“That’s definitely open. I think seven seasons and out has never been the conversation. The question is how much beyond the seventh season are we going to do. At this point, obviously we’re shooting [Season] 6 now, hopefully discussing [Season] 7. I think they’re feeling like there’s probably two more years after 6.”
Lombardo made it clear HBO still hopes for more, adding, “As I’ve said before, I would always love for them to change their minds,” but regarding 8 seasons, “I think that’s what we’re looking at right now.”
With ten episodes per season, it would be “simple” to extend things, but how long before the quality suffers? That’s the question. Hopefully, we’ll get an inkling of this as we draw closer to Game of Thrones Season 6.
