10th Anniversary of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Announcement on May 24
Per a report from Polygon, May 24, 2016 marks 10 years from the day Valve first announced the next installment of the Half-Life franchise Half-Life 2: Episode 3. The problem? That announcement was made 10 years ago on this date, and the game never materialized. Half-Life: Episode 3 was announced by Valve head Gabe Newell, and it was meant to be the finale to the Half-Life trilogy.
At the time, Valve said the game would launch at around Christmas 2007. However, the story kept changing. Valve would say the company was still working on the game, to a statement of “we have nothing to say about Half-Life.” The worst thing is that the developer who wrote all the previously released Half-Life games retired from games earlier this year in Marc Laidlaw. He had spent 18 years with Valve, and he worked on the first Half-Life game way back in 1998. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they have any plans to revive the game franchise.
Here’s hoping a day will come when the game franchise might continue. JJ Abrams is also developing a film version of the video games, though it hasn’t had any serious movement in terms of going into production.
