Star Wars Episode VIII Picks Up After VII
There was a lot of world re-building in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, as it resetup the galaxy far, far, away, and introduced us to the next generation that’s living in it, as well as what happened between then and Return of the Jedi. For many though, the ending scene truly gave us something special.
At the end of the film, Rey finally found Luke Skywalker, and gave him back his lightsaber. Luke was silent, sadly, but it was clear that he knew what was happening, and likely what he must do next. Just as sadly, the movie ended there! So, we have to wait until December to find out what’s going to happen in Star Wars Episode VII. Fortunately, according to director Rian Johnson, there won’t be a “skip” forward to their training. Rather, it’ll pick up right where it left off.
“I don’t want to skip ahead two years,” Johnson says to USA Today. “I want to see the very next moment of what happens. Part of what’s she’s dealing with is the realization that she has this power and this gift. She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”
