Alien: Covenant to Receive a VR Experience
Imagine getting stalked by slimy, malevolent and vicious creatures in virtual reality. Not only that, they are the ones designed by the master of sci-fi horror who is Ridley Scott. Per Variety, the next installment of the Alien franchise, Alien: Covenant, is set to receive a new, special virtual reality experience from Fox Innovation Lab, RSA Films, and Technicolor’s MPC VR. The VR experience will be executive produced by Alien filmmaker Ridley Scott and David Karlak will direct the project.
The VR experience will take viewers through alien environments and a story where any decision could mean life or death. It’s being developed under the Fox Innovation Lab, which is a research and development center established by 20th Century Fox to advance groundbreaking technology and consumer experiences across numerous formats. The Innovation Lab previously developed a commercial VR experience based on one of Ridley Scott’s previous experiences, The Martian VR Experience. It’s currently available for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive on Steam.
This could definitely be interesting to have a VR experience where you are stalked and hunted by Xenomorph-like creatures, or whatever the new creatures that will be depicted in Alien: Covenant. It should be interesting to see what Fox Innovation Lab comes up with.
Meanwhile, Alien: Covenant will arrive in theaters on May 19. Scott directs the project, and the films stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride.
