Did Amazon Spoil Batman Arkham Knight?
*WARNING: The article contains a possible major spoiler for Batman: Arkham Knight. If you do not want to know the spoiler, you are reading at your own risk.*
It looks like Amazon UK might have messed up majorly and inadvertently revealed a major spoiler for the Batman Arkham Knight video game. VideoGamer.com spotted a very revealing image with regards to the Batman: Arkham Knight Limited Edition box set that is currently listed on Amazon.
The special box set contains a statue of Batman. However, the spoiler-ish image implies that the statue represents a memorial statue for the fallen Dark Knight. It shows Batman standing over Gotham City with an inscribed message that reads as follows: “From a Grateful City In Memory of the Gotham Knight.” A picture of the statue with the original message is available at the above link.
To lend more credence to the idea that the message was a potential spoiler, Amazon later removed the image and replaced it with a less revealing image where the inscription on the statue only has “Gotham Knight” on it. The new image Amazon replaced the old one on the listing with is available below.
So what does this mean? Will Batman meet his end in Batman Arkham Knight? Rocksteady Studios has been open and honest that Arkham Knight is the developer’s final installment in the franchise. Arkham Knight will effectively end Rocksteady’s trilogy, and the developers have crafted an ending for Batman and the story. Batman dying would certainly be dramatic, especially after the death of his longtime archenemy, The Joker, in Arkham City.
However, one might also note that the 2012 Batman film, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, ended with a fake-out death of Batman. Bruce Wayne was believed dead, but actually managed to survive. Gotham City created a memorial statue for the lost Dark Knight when it was believed he sacrificed himself to save the city. The memorial statue shown for this set definitely seems reminiscent of The Dark Knight Rises ending. Ultimately, time will tell.
Batman Arkham Knight is due out on June 2 for the PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
