If you’ve been paying attention to good games, you know that Bayonettas 1 and 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch next month. Bayonetta 2 will be sold on a physical game card and come with a download code for Bayonetta 1 (and despite the rumors you might have heard, Bayonetta 1 is not physical on Switch anywhere, not even in those deluxe collectors’ editions from overseas).

It’s awesome that Nintendo and Sega made the decision to give these games a second chance on a much more popular system. But the Switch version of Bayonetta 2 will boast some additional functions it didn’t have on Wii U.

For example, amiibo functionality. Using appropriate amiibo (it hasn’t been revealed which) will unlock various Nintendo-themed costumes for Bayonetta to wear in the games as she runs around killing everything with her hair. You may remember something similar on Wii U — the difference is that you couldn’t use amiibo to get them. If you don’t have any, you can still earn the costumes the original way.

Another addition is the implementation of local two-player matches. Climax Mode used to be exclusively an online thing, but if you know someone else with a Switch and a copy of Bayonetta 2, you can play against them locally.

And surprise surprise — touch controls. If you so desire, you can disconnect the Joy-Cons and manipulate Bayonetta using taps and gestures. We have no idea how this works — Nintendo’s UK branch just dumped all this information today. But just so you don’t panic, it’s completely optional — the games will work with all other means of controlling the Switch.

The strangest thing about all this? These are all features that could have been implemented on Wii U but weren’t. We may never know why.
