Ant-Man And The Wasp Is Not A Romantic Comedy Says Director
So, after Avengers Infinity War, the next Marvel film to arrive will be Ant-Man and The Wasp. This film is significant for many reasons, including the fact that the film is the first to have a female character in the title, as well as a lead role. Given the events of the first film, and lines from the first trailer, many who have access to the film have noted that this will be “Marvel’s first romantic comedy”. Apparently, that’s not accurate.
Director Peyton Reed (who also did the first film) talk with Empire about Ant-Man And The Wasp and denied that this was that genre of film:
“It’s not a romantic comedy,” the director said. “The idea might enter Hope’s brain: does she need Scott Lang in her life?”
Further cementing this point, Reed noted that the film had a key storyline, making sure Wasp came off as a partner and independent hero, not a sidekick to Ant-Man:
“It was important to me, in this movie called Ant-Man and the Wasp, that she’s not a supporting character,” Reed said. “She’s a lead character. She’s become a fully-formed hero.”
There’s a lot of speculation as to where this film takes place in the timeline of things, as well as how certain things will play out. We’ll find out though when the film releases July 6th.
