Arrow Producer Talks Laurel’s “Return”
Tonight, Arrow kicks off the back half of its season. And it ended on one heck of a cliffhanger, with Laurel Lance (who died last season) seemingly alive and well. In the words of the fans, “Not. Cool.”
Naturally, fans immediately reacted by asking the obvious question, “How is Laurel alive?” Was she even real? Oliver was in a very bad place when the show had its midseason finale, so maybe it was just a figment of his imagination? The person he wanted to see more than anything else? Sadly, a later on trailer dispelled that. But, for those wondering how long this will last, Arrow Producer Wendy Mericle told ComicBookResources.com that things won’t be in the dark for long:
“I think the mystery will be resolved pretty quickly, and — for us — it was the idea of her bringing her back and having her show up when she did… as you pointed out, Oliver is in a very dark place, and bad stuff is just happening, so she’s a little ray of sunshine there.”
For those wondering if this was planned or not, Mericle reveals that this was the product of the seasons story unfolding, and seeing an opportunity:
“You know, we always keep in mind all the people that have been on the show. We always want to find a way to bring them back. If it is story dependent and when we can find the right place for it, that’s when we do it, and we just pray the actor is available. We got lucky this time. We happened to hit on this idea, and Katie [Cassidy] had some time in her schedule, and it all worked out.”
Arrow returns tonight at 8/7c on the CW.
