Arthur Darvill Up For Being Young Dumbledore
fantastic Beasts had a pretty good debut last weekend at the box office, and though it likely won’t be in 1st place this weekend due to new release Moana, it’s projected to still do pretty well. As such, talk of the sequel is pretty much underway. As stated previously, the sequel, and the movies the follow will be focusing on not only Newt Scamander, but also the legendary duel between Albus Dumbledore and the dark wizard Gridenwald. The latter has been cast in the form of Johnny Depp, but the former hasn’t been cast yet. One British star has thrown his hat into the ring for potentially playing him.
It’s none other than Arthur Darvill, the former Doctor Who companion and Legends of Tomorrow star. Who told Digital Spy in an interview that he’d be more than up for doing it if they asked:
“Absolutely, [I’m up for it]. D’you know what? I’ve made this pact with myself that when I hit a certain age, I’m only going to play wizards. I want to be that guy,” he said.
“So whether it’s 10 years down the line or… when I can grow a salt and pepper beard, I would be totally happy just playing wizards for the rest of my life,” Darvill continued. “But yeah, if they came knocking saying, ‘We really want you to play the young Dumbledore’, I’d definitely consider it!”
