An adventure game that takes players back to the golden age of 16-bit RPGs, To The Moon is a title that launched on Steam for a price tag of $9.99. It rocketed onto the scene recently, quickly becoming a popular title. Will this game be propelled into stardom, or will it fail to achieve orbit? Read on to find out.
Deponia is an independent PC Title available on Steam for a decently low price, a measly twenty US dollars at the time of this review. The game takes place primarily on the planet of Deponia, a planet used as a sort of galactic trash dump for the richer societies. Will this indie title shine like a diamond in the rough, or does it belong in the rubbish bin? Will I trash it, or will I espouse it a game you can’t refuse? I won’t waste any more of your time, let’s get to it.
For a very long time, the paranormal and certain conspiracies typically consisted of stories and eye-witness accounts that were difficult to verify, alongside the occasional jittering low-resolution photo or video. This makes accounts of the paranormal or theories of government and/or corporate conspiracy widely panned by the majority, with only a small few embracing the idea and investigating further. Today, however, the subject matter I present is 100% verifiable by anyone with a short wave radio, and well documented by scores of people across the globe. I’m speaking of course, of the mysterious “Numbers Stations”. Numbers Stations are short wave radio broadcasts consisting only of a short interval signal to identify the intended recipient or broadcaster, and then a long string of numbers and (occasionally) letters usually spoken by a monotone voice or sometimes spoken by a rudimentary text-to-speech synthesis. In this first edition of Freebie Friday, I present to you a free downloadable PC title that, while still in the alpha stages of development, is as horrifying as it is fun to play. I’m talking of course, about “SCP: Containment Breach”. The game is an homage to the collaborative horror fiction website, The SCP Foundation by independent game developers Regali. SCP stands for “Secure, Contain, Protect”. The canon of the website is fluid, but the basic premise is that it’s a repository for data concerning anomalous objects and people. The Foundation locates these objects, captures them, and holds them in a specialized site away from the public eye where they can’t be a danger to themselves or humanity in general. The website currently boasts over one thousand articles on objects or persons they have cataloged.
