Certain Avenger Will Not Return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe
WARNING!!! If you (somehow) have not seen Age of Ultron, or have not heard what happened in the movie…you really shouldn’t be reading this.
…
Still here? OK.
It seemed all to obvious that something bad was going to happen in Age of Ultron, and by “bad” I mean a death of an Avenger. We were teased with one in the original Avengers movie with Iron Man, but you knew he was going to live. With Age of Ultron, a movie promised to truly change the MCU and the Avengers forever, you knew something had to give.
Seriously, I’m about to spoil the movie. If you haven’t seen it, stop now…
So, at the end of Age of Ultron, in the climatic battle for the world, Quicksilver sacrificed himself so that Hawkeye and a young boy would live. This shocked many fans, as there was much hype for the inclusion of Quicksilver and his sister Scarlet Witch. Also, there hadn’t been much character story for Quicksilver, so his death felt hollow to some. However, since this is a comic book property, and no one ever “stays” dead in the comics, many fans thought he may return someway somehow. According to Kevin Feige, though, that’s not happening.
Marvel Studios head Feige participated in a Q&A session at the University of Southern California, and a student took notes of the Q&A and posted it on Reddit. Feige was apparently asked about the “true” fate of Quicksilver, and the student noted thus:
“Quiksilver is dead. 100%, he’s not coming back any time soon, there are no plans. No LMD [life model decoy], no escaping bullets, no retcon. (Feige) said he is dead and wanted to make sure people understood that.”
Also though, the student noted how Feige said this was not a random death, this was thought out for some time.
“During filming of original Avengers they were already planning AoU – they knew Quiksilver [sic] would die, Vision and Scarlet Witch would have a ‘moment,’ and that the gem was in the scepter.”
So it appears the Twins are truly no more, and that Scarlet Witch will be on her own for the remainder of her movies. That is unless Feige is trying to mislead fans on future plans. What do you think about all of this?
