Avengers: Infinity War Now Comes Out One Week Earlier
The date on all trailers for Avengers: Infinity War, at least those that have been released to date, say the movie is coming out May 4. No longer! For whatever reason, Disney bumped the release date up a week. It’s now closer than ever at April 27. This was formally just the European release date — now most of the Western world will get it simultaneously.
With no official word on a motive, we can only guess at why — but our best theory is that the existing date was too close to Solo, which comes out May 25. The releases were close enough to cannibalize each other….can’t have that.
So what does this mean for all those movies that picked April 27 as a release date, thinking they would have at least one week in the spotlight? It’s probably bad news for Amy Schumer’s I Feel Pretty. Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage comes out the week before and it would’ve had a longer tail otherwise (assuming there’s interest in a movie based on a C-list arcade game from 1983). One character who is probably breathing a sigh of relief is Deadpool — sandwiched between Infinity War and Solo, his sequel now has more space to itself.
At any rate, Thanos and his gauntlet will be here before anyone knows it. See you in the theater April 27.
