Awesome Games Done Quick Returns This Sunday
Late this weekend, Games Done Quick will return with a new logo and seven full days of breaking the most popular video games, in the name of defeating cancer! This year’s AGDQ will take place within a banquet hall in Herndon, Virginia. Though corporate sponsors usually have their logos on the screen, they are only paying for the setup and staff. 100% of donations go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
This year’s lineup may prove controversial. Shockingly, Super Metroid has been left off the list for the first time in years, depriving the marathon of one of its most lucrative goals, “Save/Kill The Animals.” Also, don’t expect very many of 2017’s most popular games….as entertaining as a zip-through of Cuphead or Super Mario Odyssey might be, the games simply weren’t old enough at the time of submission for speedrunner skills to be properly honed (though I would point out that Mario Odyssey is already one of the most popular games currently being used for competitive speedrunning).
But there will be plenty to watch as it stands. Sunday will feature Skyrim broken in one hour. Monday will feature the Aladdin game broken in 20 minutes. On Friday Ocarina of Time will be broken….traditionally, without glitches, in a 100% run (it’s been a long time since the game was played honestly around here). An entire block will be devoted to Mega Man X (Zero 3, X and X4) as well as a team relay through Mega Mans 1, 2 and 3. DO NOT MISS Zelda: Link to the Past, which will use a randomized ROM that scatters the items throughout Hyrule.
The action wraps up on Sunday, January 14 with a four-hour playthrough of Breath of the Wild (including all main quests). Don’t miss Awesome Games Done Quick, streaming all next week on Twitch.
