Battlefront's Campaign Cut Because Of Force Awakens
Despite its success, so much so that it’s getting a sequel, DICE’s reboot of Star Wars: Battlefront wasn’t without its flaws. One of which was the lack of a campaign mode, which at times was one of the best parts of previous games. During an investors meeting, EA Studios boss, Patrick Söderlund talked about why this happened, mainly because of The Force Awakens coming to theaters a month later:
“The one thing that we got criticized for was the lack of a single-player campaign”, he said. “It was a conscious decision we made due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact.”
To be fair, this did give the game massive sales, and a campaign may have pushed release until after the movie was out and the hype had died down.
However, Soderlund did promise that the sequel will not suffer from Battlefronts missteps:
“I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it’s a success. Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we’re going to cure going forward? Absolutely.”
