Benedict Cumberbatch Says Sherlock Isn’t Ending
Despite being one of the best interpretations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes’ franchise ever made, Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is also known as a show with very long gaps between its “seasons,” which are only three episodes long. Because of this, the other actors have been able to do other projects, including Cumberbatch becoming Doctor Strange. However, with his new movie role, people are wondering whether Sherlock will end with the upcoming Season 4.
One report said that Cumberbatch noted that Sherlock would likely end with the fourth season, but in an interview with USA Today, the denied that claim. Cumberbatch noted he “talked to a journalist about [Sherlock] who tried to make something sensational out of it and create clickbait.”
He added, “It was a complete distortion of what I actually said which was ‘[Season 4] was the last one for now.’ There’s a big difference, and he just went ‘It’s the last one’ and left a paragraph hanging in the air.”
Cumberbatch continued on how the cast loves the show, but all of them are currently busy with other projects at the moment, saying, “All I’ll say about it is that we’re all very busy. We’re all doing other things now, and you have to see the fourth season to see why it’s not going to happen in the same regularity as it has been happening….When it’s right – and if it’s right – we’ll do more.”
Sherlock returns to BBC in 2017.
