Black Panther: New Synopsis and Production Kicks Off
Marvel Studios announced this week that production had finally begun on the Black Panther live-action movie, which arrives in theaters next year. The upcoming film sees the return of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa of Wakanda aka Black Panther, who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War last year.
Marvel confirmed the full cast for the film. Martin Freeman also returns from Civil War as Everett Ross, and Andy Serkis returns from Avengers: Age of Ultron as Ulysses Klaw. They are joined by Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, John Kani, and Forest Whitaker. The film is directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. Here’s the official synopsis from Marvel Studios:
“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
The film is produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Black Panther arrives in theaters on February 16, 2018. Black Panther will be filming throughout Atlanta, Georgia and Korea.
The film is a long time coming. Black Panther made his first appearance in the pages of Fantastic Four, Issue No. 52 way back in 1966. Black Panther now joins Marvel’s Phase 3 slate of films.
