Black Panther Solo Comic Revealed By Marvel
More and more comics continued to be unveiled for the post-Secret Wars Marvel world. Now, the King of Wakanda, Black Panther, is back in solo comic form, and will be written by journalist and long-time comic books fan Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Coates is not only very excited to be writing this book, but is planning some big progressive changes for T’Challa.
“It’s going to be a story that repositions the Black Panther in the minds of readers,” Mr. Alonso said to the New York Times. “It really moves him forward.”
He goes on to note that comics were truly a big part of his life:
“an intimate part of my childhood and, at this point, part of my adulthood,” he said. “It was mostly through pop culture, through hip-hop, through Dungeons & Dragons and comic books that I acquired much of my vocabulary.”
He also admired how there were many African-American heroes who were simply heroes, and not shined upon because of their race:
“They were obviously black,” he recalled, but it was not made into a big deal. Still, he said: “I’m sure it meant something to see people who looked like me in comic books. It was this beautiful place that I felt pop culture should look like.”
No word yet on when the comic will release.
