Brian Michael Bendis To Write Invincible Iron Man Relaunch
It’s clear that after Secret Wars, the Marvel comic universe won’t be exactly the same. Marvel has been teasing changes recently, including new stories, characters, and roles for many a Marvel hero. One that had a big question mark was Tony Stark. An Iron Man was shown in the FCBD (Free Comic Book Day) preview issue and was teased in promo art, but it wasn’t clear if Stark was in the armor.
Now though, it was announced that at the Special Edition NYC convention that Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez will relaunch the book. In addition, we know not only that Tony Stark is still Iron Man (via ComicBook.com). It’s clear that the Bendis and Marquez have one goal in mind: make Iron Man the peak of Marvel’s comics.
“We’re tasked with taking the crown jewel of the Disney/Marvel empire. We’re doing a new armor, a new girlfriend, and we will find out who Tony Stark’s birth parents are,” Bendis teased. “His new armor will turn into any of his 30 armors on the fly, so he can alter it to do whatever he needs at the moment.”
Oh, and he’s going to be getting some new foes as well! “Tony needs more villains for Tony, not just Iron Man,” Bendis said. “He needs more friends who are not Avengers.”
Though Iron Man is the face of the Avengers in the movies, his comics have been hit or miss at times. His recent run in Superior Iron Man wasn’t well received by many. No doubt that helped lead to the overhaul and relaunch of Invincible Iron Man. How will it catch on? We’ll find out post Secret Wars.
