Broken Banners Lands On Steam Greenlight
Broken Banners is a small episodic adventure calling back to the grand fantasy tales of Raymond E. Feist, George R.R. Martin and Michael Moorcock, has landed on Steam Greenlight. Combining gameplay elements of visual novels, choose-your-own-adventure games and both western and eastern RPGs, Broken Banners aims at providing you with a few hours of solid, unpadded fantasy entertainment.
The story begins with a ship aflame, driven into ambush by an unnatural storm. Showered by arrows, the Howling Mare – a trading ship from the southern port of Carr Calath – crashes upon solid rock, stranding you on an unknown coast. You were the Mare’s first mate, but even you knew little about her latest and last voyage. A hooded party of twelve snuck onto the ship at night, paying generously for safe passage to the capital city. No questions asked, they said, and so none were posed… But the cargo they dragged aboard brought with it attention and peril.
Broken Banners is set to have a number of features, including:
- Explore a rich world laden with history, in which the sins of the past come back to haunt the present, and men and women of ambition clash for power. Travel across handcrafted maps and read through robust illustrated narrative sections and dialogue.
- Delve into a low-magic fantasy setting, in which spells and mysticism are not an everyday occurrence. Remember: all you can truly depend on is your steel and wit.
- Create your own protagonist, beyond simply choosing the portrait and starting attributes: every situation in the game allows you to better define your character, how he or she feels, thinks and acts in situations both earthly and bizarre.
- Control a party of four, each one a unique and memorable character, each one with their own story to tell and goals to follow.
- Meet your foes in turn-based combat, utilizing tactics, special talents and crafted items to defeat foes more powerful than yourself.
- Immerse yourself in an interactive story in which your choices are carried between episodes and build towards a personalized grand finale.
As you wake up in shallow waters, bruised and battered, you find yourself woefully unprepared for what lies ahead. Assassins move in to slay any survivors and dark entities turn their gaze towards the wreckage. Escape the attackers, join a desperate party and face off against foes both mortal and timeless, against schemes of men and creatures that are men no longer. The Mare was thrust to the center of a conspiracy against the crown – a plot that only the ship’s cargo can unravel. Will you rise to the challenge and protect the order of the land? Or will you watch as the flames of history consume all?
