This is being touted as the FINAL Superman episode EVER. However, I must say that I’ve read a synopsis of the episode, and it’s a doozie.

THE DEMON REBORN

The World’s Finest team up again in this brief tale which deserved to be told in two episodes.
The story begins with a train heading toward Metropolis. A plane flies close above the train and releases one-man fliers, which attack the train. Meanwhile, in Metropolis, Clark and Lois are with Professor Blackwing awaiting the arrival of the train carrying Indian tribal artifacts. A train guard transmits a message to the professor alerting him to the attack.
Seconds later, Superman reaches the train and fights the dark costumed thieves. The female leader of the thieves is Talia. She searches for and finds a shaman’s crystal staff. In order to get away with the staff, Talia blows up a section of the track. While Superman tries to stop the train from derailing, the Batmobile pulls up on a parallel track. Both Superman and Batman stop the train. After Superman asks Batman why he is in Metropolis, Batman tells him that he has been tracking the Society of Shadows for weeks. Superman offers to help.
GOOD POINTS:
The writers of this episode gave fans many nods in this too short Batman/Superman team up. The dialogue between Superman and Batman as well as Batman and Lois gave a brief look at their relationships. Superman comments to Batman about Batman’s showing up unannounced in Metropolis. Batman describes Superman’s fighting style as “charging in with both arms swinging”. (Fans have often said Superman is often portrayed using more brawn than brain. He’s supposed to be highly intelligent, too!) Lois and Batman meet for the first time since their break-up. Bruce says, “I’m sorry”(!), and then pulls his disappearing act on her. When discussing Talia with Superman, Batman expresses regret about his failed relationships.
Superman reacts with a sad facial expression. Batman admits that Superman was clever in his more cerebral method of dealing with Ra’s al Ghul in the final fight. Superman graciously acknowledges Batman’s “advice” and obviously enjoyed the partnership. Batman responds in his typically terse fashion, but smiles as he leaves. The episode ends as Superman smiles in a knowing way.
It’s a nice sequel to “World’s Finest” and “Knight Time”.
BAD POINTS:
The drawing style continued in the less detailed method of the more recent TNBSA episodes, but the fight scenes were still well choreographed. (I prefer the thinner bodies of TNBSA but I miss the details, the facial expressions and the more realistic style of BTAS. ) No where was the lack of details more obvious than when Talia pulled the shaman’s staff out of her blazer.
It’s a long staff! There’s no way it could have fit inside her blazer and the animator just drew it on top of her blazer.
Helen Slater was replaced as the voice of Talia. Olivia Hussey did Talia’s voice this time.
Helen Slater’s Talia sounded more exotic. George Dicenzo did not reprise his portrayal of the voice of Ubu. In “The Demon Reborn”, Ubu was voiced by Michael Horse. He had very few lines, so besides acknowledging the change of actors, there isn’t much else to say.
“The Demon Reborn” episode was a tantalizing taste of what the 1999 TNBSA season could – and SHOULD – have been. I watched this episode with a sense of sadness for the loss of the 1999 season and the need to wait at least a year for a new Batman episode.

RANDOM SUBMISSIONS

Here’s hoping readers of GOTHAM ADVENTURES will give themselves a chance to warm up to the “new guys.” Scott Peterson has a solid handle on Batman and his world – and has written some damn good scripts – and Tim Levins continues to impress me with the quality of his pencils. As an inker, I’m happiest when the penciller can REALLY draw – and I’m mighty happy these days. Tim’s composition, figures, backgrounds, etc. are impeccable. The issue I’m finishing in the next day or two (#22) is a wonderful Batgirl/Jim Gordon team-up. Really sweet piece o’ work (no Two-Face in #22 though!)…
*TWO-FACE’S DIVINE INTERVENTION* Grumble….*INTERVENTION, OVER AND OUT*
Scott seems to be relying LESS on classic villains – using them only every two or three issues – focusing in other stories on the relationships between the Bat-crew – and their dealing with “smaller” crimes. But the “biggies” will be around – just inked a Ra’s Al Ghul image for an upcoming cover…speaking of which, that Bob Smith feller is doin’ a hell of a job on both the GOTHAM and BEYOND cover pencils – always a treat to ink his work.
I’m second to none in my admiration for the work Rick and Ty were doing on the book – but it’s no disrespect to them to see the good in the work the new crew is doing. And there WILL be one more Ty story published – when my schedule allows me to finish drawing the much mentioned, but still only half done Joker “inventory” story. Rick may show up again in GOTHAM’s pages at some point too – a return to the book has not been ruled out – he just needs some (well-deserved) time away after a terrific run on the title.
And remember, with BTAS out of production, GOTHAM ADVENTURES is your only source for new animated Batman adventures – so please, Batfans, don’t pass it up.
And on an annoying note – we’re having computer trouble here (have the OLD one set up for managing our e-mail for a while) – so have we’ve NOT been offering any original Bat art on eBay lately. My apologies to those who have searched around looking for my art auctions when there haven’t been any. Hope to change that soon. The word you never want to hear in regard to your newly purchased computer is “recall.” Yes – there IS a reason to save those original packing boxes….
Oh – in convention news, current and previous Bat-creators attending BoucherCon (World Mystery Convention) in Milwaukee this coming weekend include Greg Rucka Max Collins and li’l ol’ me. A little different – and more expensive to attend – at least in ticket price – than a comic con. But if you’re a major Bat-fan/mystery fan in the Milwaukee area – might be worth your time (There IS a Bouchercon website – but don’t know the URL offhand – THAT info’s on the crashed computer… sigh…)
And I’ll be a guest at the ReznHedz model and toy expo the following weekend (Oct 9 & 10) at the Hillside Holiday Inn in Hillside (Chicago) IL. THE NEW WRITERS
When The Adventures of Batman and Robin halted production back in ’93 or ’94, the fan base was of two minds. Most were outraged, saddened, and thunderstruck that their favorite heroes weren’t going to be seen in new adventures. Others, like me, were restricted to what’s called “farmer vision” consisting of two channels. They only showed about ten of the B&R episodes, anyway. Us in the second ‘mind’ were relieved that we could actually go out on the weekends, and not desperately wait for a new Batman episode at exactly 10:30 every Saturday morning. Our tapes of sixty-odd episodes would have to do us.
Then the WB caught on – and Batman came back. And us fans, who have grown into people that not only know who Scarecrow really is but who designed him as well, we perked up our ears.
The biggest change, I think, is the style. That all boils down to the writing, NOT just the character design. It’s not thirties-style crime noir anymore…it’s character-based family drama, in a cape. Since Paul “Hey, I’m a god over here” Dini was now story editor and producer, new writers came in to add their voices to the mouths of the Bat-Family.
The first guy to mention is Steve Gerber. His episode, “Beware the Creeper” (as well as World’s Finest pt. 2, I believe) was a fresh, interesting, and most importantly FUNNY take on the Joker, Harley, and the Creeper. It remains a favorite. Gerber, of course, is no stranger to odd humor. He is, after all, the creator of Howard the Duck. His take on the Bat-universe is very good, and he’s one of the only other writers I trust with The Joker.
The next writer I’ve selected is living proof that genius needs a supportive environment. About the time Batman first went off the air, you may have seen the work of one Stan Berkowitz on a fairly embarrassing show called “Spider-Man”. The scripts were ridiculous, but the savvy comic-book style of Berkowitz shined through savaged scripts like the origin of perennial Spidey crook The Lizard. Berkowitz made it tense, believable, GOOD… but he shares credit with a number of others on his scripts. Others who insist on a series-wide dramatic narrative that kills the individual story. Alan Semper, are you listening?
Once Berkowitz appeared on the Bat-toon, well…see for yourself. “The Demon Within” is my personal favorite of his work. An episode with an interesting one-shot villain, a legendary guest hero, and the logical combo of mysterious Batman with mysterious black arts. A genius adventure episode, and one of the best of all time. Of all the new writers, Berkowitz is my favorite.
I would be remiss if I did not include Robert Goodman, who if memory serves wrote the staggering Batman Beyond episode “Black Out”. The episode’s genius is the slim writing that allowed the animators to go all-out in depicting a villain that is more special effect than person, but creepily strapped with human greed, vanity, and pride.
(I should also mention that Derek Powers’ transformation from slick criminal to psychopathic radiation-based misfit is handled brilliantly through BB, not like the idiotic build-up to the Secret War on “Spider-Man”. Damn you, Semper.)
Last, but not least, is the startlingly prolific Hilary J. Bader. You’ve seen her work all over TV…she has written for “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (we’re not worthy!) and even “Xena: Warrior Princess”. Her most poignant work, we (of course) think is on Batman. Not only did she handle the lion’s share of new scripts, she also has a hand and an arm in Batman Beyond and has written most of the BB comics! Her most recent, “Grounded”, featuring guest villain Spellbinder, shows a thorough understanding of both of the heroes of BB, old and new. Having graduated from the ‘family’ of ST:TNG to the ‘family’ of Batman, it’s safe to say that although not all of her scripts are brilliant genius (neither are Dini’s), their sheer volume and the high level maintained shows that the Batman universe will be well-represented well into the century that Batman Beyond depicts.
Good job so far, guys ‘n’ gals. Now get back to work!

(DISCLAIMER: For those of you who are not yet familiar, Reliable Source is an anonymous character who first surfaced on Batman: The Animated Message Boards, spewing forth ridiculous predictions about the future of Batman Beyond under the guise of spoiler warnings. His controversial posts created quite a buzz, and have now landed him, at least at this moment, a temporary column with this newsletter. The thoughts and ideas expressed by this character are in no way officially connected to Kids WB, Batman Beyond, this newsletter, or anything that is decent or holy.)
Hello folks, and welcome once again to another edition of this fine newsletter. This week I’m kicking off the column with something a little different. We’re going to reach into the ol’ mailsack and pull out a letter from one of our readers. This week’s letter comes from Michael C. Wilson, Corporal of the United States Marine Corps. He writes:
“Ooh rah & goodmorning or afternoon. What you wrote sounds too good to be true. Are they ever gonna throw Bruce into the Lazarus Pit and get rid of Terry? What new Animated Batman/Superman Toys are coming out? Also, Batman Beyond toys in the future?”
Well, sir, what I write often IS too good to be true, but that’s why we run that little
disclaimer. Nonetheless, I’m glad you asked about the new action figures. Many fans of both the Batman cartoons and comic books have always sought after the Hasbro action figures based on the animated series. However, lately many have been disappointed with the selection in the lines of figures. Yet, listen to this.
Due to an accident at the factory, Hasbro has produced figures of the ACTORS that do the voices of the characters instead of the characters themselves. Apparently the blueprints for the figures were switched with photos of the voice actors that were intended for a new book called A Look Behind Batman’s Mask. Most of these figures were destroyed under orders of Kids WB, but some limited edition Kevin Conroy and Arleen Sorkin figures did make it through to the black market, and are also being sold via eBay for millions of dollars. Rumor has it that Wizard and/or ToyFare may also be offering a special Paul Williams as The Penguin figure in the coming months.
Hasbro is now frantically trying to get its correct line together in time to make deadline. Here is what will be in the new wave of figures.
First up is a new and improved version of the Derek Powers/Blight figure. (Many complained about the first version because they only bothered to show the skull and ribcage, and because the figure was totally, totally naked…disgusting.) This new figure comes with radioactive heating that melts off his skin. Unfortunately you can only do this once and then the skin is melted off forever. You have to buy the special Powers Regeneration Center (the thing he goes into on the show to get his skin back) and Powers Skin Refill Packs to turn him back into Powers for about 5 minutes, and then he transforms again. Wear protective clothing with this one because he really is radioactive.
Next up is Elderly Bruce Wayne. He comes with a voice chip that says cool phrases like “McGinnis, get out of there!”, “If you scratch it, no allowance!” and “So go stop them!” He also comes with a little box of Depends Adult Diapers….don’t ask.
And, of course, YES!! More Batman variants! SCUBA BATMAN, NINJA BATMAN, CYBORG BATMAN, VIKING KNIGHTS BATMAN, STEALTH BATMAN, MS-DOS BATMAN, COWBOY BATMAN, INDIAN BATMAN, BALLERINA BATMAN, and CROSS-DRESSER BATMAN are just a few of the GREAT new figures that Hasbro has come up with!
After all, everyone knows that Batman variants are the #1 sellers among the figures…. mainly because that’s pretty much ALL THEY MAKE. But I digress. Thank you to Cpl. Wilson for taking the time to write in. Do you have a hot topic you’d like to see addressed by Reliable Source?

BATMAN: THE TOY LINE AND BEYOND!
Hi! This is a sample article I did on the Batman adventures and Batman Beyond toy line, if this is actually published I hope you enjoy it and will be wise consumers to your toys!
I was recently lucky enough to stumble upon the new and rare “Rumble Ready Riddler” Figure. This is an animated style Riddler with a question mark cart and Quiz Missle cane. This over all is a great toy and fits in perfect with the other “New Batman adventure” villan figures. If you would like to see a picture go to hasbro’s renovated batman website and click on the animated section!

Overall: a great toy for Riddler and Batman fans alike!
Now I am going to talk about the Batman Beyond toy line. This line has much debate over it, but its sales will continue the line into the millenium and beyond.
Next on the block and apparently availale now are a sleek and naked Blight as well as a Batman variant with a Terry McGinnis head. Both these toys look very well done and Blight and his bones glow in the dark, oooohhhh scary!!!!! Terry comes with a robin bird assistant and removable armor to look wounded! After this the line will have a Deluxe figure set with a big Jokerz member and a little Jokerz member that he can throw like the BTAS Bane figure. And of course the line will have more variants. I am really looking hard for the Blight figure but he has just been released so don’t beat yourselves up if you can’t find him.

Overall: This wave of figures looks better than the last though I do like the Jokerz leader and Future Knight Batman
Side note: The original plans for an Inque toy were apparently cancelled but if this character returns I am sure she will eventually become a toy.
Also there are apparently NEW Batman animated villan Beanie Babies at the WB stores accross america, Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Poison Ivy are in the line up.

COMIC REVIEWS

ISSUE: “Daddy Dearest” (#17)

“Any murder is unacceptable. But to target a child…never. Not in MY city.”
–Batman
SUMMARY: After an apparent mob hit is thwarted by Batman, he goes undercover to find out who was behind it and why. He finds out that the men were after the family’s son. Batman goes after the man responsible, who explains that after a rival gang hit that left him wheelchair-bound, his only son had died. Checking at the hospital revealed that it wasn’t his real son, but one who was switched at birth. The boy he is after is his real son. Batman has to give the boy the right to meet his dad, even though he’s a vicious mafia boss. However, after talking with him, the son says thanks but no thanks and leaves his father. Batman trusts the father to stay away from his son because of something he saw in his eyes.
COMMENTS: This issue actually had some good characterization, some plot, and some very good moments. It’s the first of the issues after Ty Templeton left that I can say that about. The cover is great, as well.
CRITICISMS: I think that the switched-at-birth thing is something that’s been done to death in all forms of entertainment and media lately, so I didn’t find anything all too remarkable or new to the story. Also, the art seemed a lot more cartoony than I’m used to in the animated style. It was more cartoon-like than the actual show.
BOTTOM LINE: A nice story that will entertain and maybe even make you think. Maybe.

-Apparently there is a strong push inside WB for Batman Beyond to run in a “prime time” slot. However producer Bruce Timm thinks that it will remain in its Saturday morning slot for at least a while longer. “Yes, there is interest in Batman Beyond in prime time, but they really need Batman Beyond on Saturday mornings. It’s kind of an umbrella show; it helps raise the ratings on all the shows. They need it to help prop up Saturday mornings.”

-CINESCAPE REPORTS THE FOLLOWING (this one’s true):
It appears that the negative response to Batman and Robin affected George Clooney more deeply than we may have previously guessed. While talking to Cinescape contributor Cindy Pearlman in her syndicated column, Clooney came clean on how that acting selection has affected his work choices ever since saying, “I think Batman not doing so well was a real awakening for me. That was the turning point where I said, ‘OK, I’m just going to do projects and scripts that I like.’ I sat down with my business manager and he said, ‘You can do that.’ Since then it was a long road to get Out of Sight made, and it was a good film. That’s enough for me. This is a great script and a good film. I just finished a movie with the Coen brothers based on Homer’s The Odyssey, but set in 1935. It’s as good a movie as I will ever do.”
-KEANU REEVES HIMSELF REPORTS THE FOLLOWING (this one is true, too.):
Two weeks after tvtimes exclusively revealed that he’s to take over the cowl and cape from George Clooney, Keanu Reeves now talks to Insider* about his hopes for the new Batman film.
“It’ll have to be dark, very sombre. Something that’ll make people think twice about whether they’re actually watching a Batman film or not. Bruce Wayne’s a guy- and we’re talking serious wealthy dude- who has a pychological need to dress up, disguise his face and fight equally twisted bad guys. I want to se more about what makes him tick- Bruce is far more than just your average wacko.
“I would have to insist, and i mean most strenuously, that any Batman film i’m involved in would have to have The Joker in it- absolutely. He’s the archetypal bad guy, the Bat-nemesis.
He’s the dude with whom the Bat must battle- he’s in the film, or i’m not! And Jack Nicholson has to do it again- definately. Caeser Romero was cool on TV, but that was when Batman was all ‘pows’ and ‘zaps’- right for the time, but Batman has matured. The old Batmobile had serious style, though- a man could drive in that and know thte meaning of cool.”
AND THEN THERE’S ALL THIS STUFF (true or false?):
-Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently in talks with the WB about his future with the studio. “I always intended to play the most memorable villain, and the public is screaming for more of me.
They say that I even outshine that “The Joke-Maker” that Jack Nich-awl-son played in the first movie. Mr. Chill is zee best thing about Batman, PERIOD, which is why he’s the only bad guy that wasn’t killed at zee end. I’m coming back, and I assure you that it’s going to be very…heh heh…COOL.” Arnold laughed for about five minutes after saying that. BATMAN 5: SO VERY TIRED is set for a release date of February 30, 2001. *COUGH* *AHEM*
-In related news, Kevin Sorbo has turned down the role of Killer Croc in the upcoming Bat-epic, BATMAN 6: SWAMP THAAANG. Why? “I read the script, and all I did was scream, roar, and throw rocks at people,” he said. “I don’t know who this Dini guy is, but I sure wish he made my character look more intelligent. I’m getting paid $30 Million for THIS? I don’t think so.”
Sorbo has left the role. With this intriguing development, the WB has ventured into Hollywood’s seedy underbelly to find a weirder, grosser actor to carry off the part. A WB exec claims “We’ve narrowed down the choices to either Dennis Rodman or John Holmes.” They claim that Holmes is in a slight lead because he already has a significant “tail” of his own – perfect for Croc.
-Apparently Robin Williams and Martin Short both want to play the role of the Mad Hatter so badly that they had decided to compete for the role in the form of an improv-off. The best improvisation artist gets the role. Watch for these two go head to head on WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?, this fall on ABC.
-In related news, various “Wonderland” scenes in BATMAN 5: SO VERY TIRED (in which the Hatter appears) will be filmed on location at the Tea Cup ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
-Rumours about Jenny McCarthy playing Harley Quinn in an upcoming feature are popping up all over the net again. “I love the character. She’s so kookie. So crazy. So kinky. She doesn’t make any sense at all, but it looks like a good chance for me to act wild and show off my goodies,” she told us. Be that as it may, the WB may not be interested in her any more. Teen pop-sensation Britney Spears is also in contention. Why? “Her ‘goodies’ are much better than those of Ms. McCarthy,” an exec said. “Imagine putting nipples on HER suit!” They are also interested in Spears for her musical talent. “We really think that Britney’s ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ single perfectly describes Harley’s relationship with the Riddler – no, it’s the Joker, right? Who cares. Anyhow, we’d love to get that song on the soundtrack. We’d like either ‘Six Pence None The Richer’ or ‘Rob Zombie’ to do a cover of that single.”
-Two-Face’s two molls, Sugar and Spice, both presumed still alive, will be getting their own spin-off movie, entitled “THE YIN AND THE YANG”. This movie also features their “master”, a dominatrix named “Harvette D. Robyn the 40th”. Sounds kinky.
TOYS & MERCHANDISE
-The various combined BATMAN toy lines have become the second-best selling toy line of the 1990’s. What was number one? NOT STAR WARS! HAH! They’re #3, followed by the Ninja Turtles at #4, and GI Joe at #5. The Power Rangers took the prized #1 spot. Ack. But at least we beat the tripe known as Star Wars.
-The Playstation version of the SUPERMAN video game has a tentative release date of September 16, 1999.

THE ROAD THROUGH NO MAN’S LAND

Yes, I know this isn’t really an animated topic, but I thought, hey, it’s Batman’s 60th anniversary, and this is the big event that celebrates it, so I should have a section dedicated to this year-long crossover. Besides, so far it’s been excellent in every issue. We have this section split up into two parts – the first saying what has already happened, the second previewing what’s to come. Enjoy!

SEPTEMBER: Leslie Thompkins has taken in Mr. Zsasz, who later runs on a rampage in the M*A*S*H* sector of NML. To complicate things, Zsasz is the man that severely injured one of Killer Croc’s friends, so, of course, Croc wants revenge. Batman and Huntress collide with Leslie, telling her to take Zsasz out of her care immediately. Huntress and the mute Batgirl meet for the first time. Petit then enters the fray, hunting Killer Croc, inadvertantly endangering everyone with his brutal crime-fighting methods. All of this was in BATMAN CHRONICLES #18.
Nightwing has finally escaped from Blackgate, and put Lock-Up, KGBeast, and all the other villains held within back behind bars, where they belong. Blackgate Prison is now once again under Batman’s control.
Then, in “Underground Railroad”, Hardback (one of the former members of the GCPD) does his best to keep his 100 blocks of Gotham safe. He soon learns that the Penguin knows of a way to leave Gotham safely, despite the destroyed bridges and mines in the river; he goes to the Penguin and works out a deal with him, to get his children out of Gotham. The Joker also appears. By the end of this story, it would appear that the Penguin is actually a “good guy”…ain’t that sweet?
Robin has finally finished his sewer adventure, defeating both the Ratcatcher and Mr. Freeze at the same time. (Y’see, they teamed up…long story.) Batman and Hardback come in and save the day.
Then in “Goin’ Downtown”, Bane finally makes his move. Under the command of the mysterious “outside interest”, Bane is commiting crimes left, right, and centre throughout the war-torn city, riling up dozens of street gangs, and framing Two-Face for doing so. All of the gangs
converge and attack Two-Face’s stronghold at city hall downtown. Batman and Robin show up, asking the Penguin, who knows it’s a frame-up, for help. They then save Two-Face from being hanged, just as Bane destroys Gotham City – by levelling the hall of records. Two-Face and Bane get away; it is revealed that ever since “Assembly”, Two-Face HAS in fact controlled the majority of Gotham.

WHAT’S TO COME…
-October: Superman returns to Gotham, saving the city from Petit and his renegade ex-cops. Then Two-Face breaks his deal with Gordon, kidnaps him, and puts him on trial in “Jurisprudence” – BATMAN #572 and DC #739. And don’t forget “Batman: No Man’s Land #0”, featuring what Batman did when he abandonned Gotham, who encouraged him to return, and how Huntress became Batgirl.
-November: Batman confronts Gordon. The “Outside Interest” is revealed. The Joker makes his move. Bane also appears.
-December: NML concludes with the three-part “Endgame” story, and then a final reflection in the final issue of SHADOW OF THE BAT (#94). The hope of a new Gotham comes into view – which is when the moment we’ve been waiting for finally hits. The Joker returns in a big way to “destroy hope”…by kidnapping and killing children. And this all happens during the Christmas season. Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Azrael, Oracle, Batgirl, and Huntress all have major roles. The outside interest is finally revealed.
-ONE OF THE MAJOR HEROES WILL DIE BEFORE “NO MAN’S LAND” ENDS. (This is in Detective Comics #741).

AS FOR THE OTHER HEROES:
-Batman MIGHT reveal his identity to Gordon in November.
-Robin goes up against Killer Croc in Robin #71 and 72.
-Azrael faces off against the Joker AGAIN in AZRAEL #60 and 61 – both guest-starring Batgirl.
-The Huntress hangs out with Petit for the remainder of NML.
-Superman will return to Gotham in SHADOW OF THE BAT #92, in October.
-Commissioner Gordon is kidnapped by Two-Face in BATMAN #572 and DC #739, in October. Batman later confronts him in LOTDK #125.
-Tim Drake’s father breaks into NML to retrieve his son from the ghastly warzone – in December.
AND AS FOR THE REMAINING VILLAINS…
-Killer Croc appears in ROBIN #71 and 72, in October and November.
-Echo (introduced back in May in “Claim Jumping”) will be returning to Gotham before the year is through.
-Two-Face cuts his deal with Commissioner Gordon and promptly kidnaps him; he puts him on trial
in the two-part “Jurisprudence”, this October. Apparently he is the second-last villain to be
defeated. (How fitting.)
-Bane re-appears, and the “outside interest” is revealed in SOTB #93, in November.
-Catwoman seeks refuge in the Penguin’s territory in CATWOMAN #76, in November, and then faces Deadman in December.
-The Joker re-appears in November in the two-part “Shellgame”, just as Gotham is beginning to be re-built. This leads directly into the three-part “Endgame” in December, during Gotham’s Christmas season, just as NML draws to a close, to once and for all destroy Gotham and all of its citizens.

As for submissions, feel free to submit an article or opinion on anything pertaining to BTAS. Keep in mind that as the editors, we have the right to edit your submissions if we deem it necessary. Such instances would include problems with length, grammar, and language. If we do feel we must edit something, however, we will do our utmost to ensure that the opinion and the basic message of the submission does not change, as that is the most important part of any artcile, and everyone is entitled to it. And if you do submit something, please don’t just submit a basic review of an episode or a comic or something (because we have people writing for those purposes already) – write about an issue you’d like to discuss.
