Bubsy Planning A New Cat-astrophe On Steam
If you were around in the early 90’s, then you know the video game market was 90% composed of fuzzy creatures with attitude who wouldn’t shut up. They wore sunglasses and rode skateboards and kicked Dr. Machino’s butt and anything else an out of touch bald man in a suit thought was cool. When people think back to this era, the first mascot that comes to mind is the cat-pun-slinging walking disaster known as Bubsy.
The thing about Bubsy is, there were other mascots worse than him (Cheetahmen), and there were certainly ones more obnoxious than him (Boogerman, and no, I didn’t make that name up). His first game wasn’t Mario-quality but it wasn’t LJN-level either. Bubsy might have had a quiet shelf life and faded into obscurity like Aero the Acro-Bat, were it not for the final game to bear his name: Bubsy 3D, regarded as one of the single worst video games ever sold. Released one month after Mario 64, it was an early attempt at 3D gaming that was nearly unplayable. The graphics were a laughable mess and Bubsy’s “attitude” was turned up to excruciating levels. Because of this one game (which really WAS that bad), Bubsy became the poster cat for soulless mascot platformers.

This brings us to today. A small company called Retroism bought the rights to Bubsy for what I assume was about four dollars and change. They plan to remaster the first two games and release them on Steam in a package they’ve dubbed Bubsy Two-Fur (which is totally what he would have called it). This is assuming they get the greenlight from Steam, which is where you and your votes come in.
Do you want Bubsy to return? It’s okay if you don’t; I understand.
