Captain America: Civil War Hits $25 Million on Thursday
Captain America: Civil War has finally hit US shores after getting an early release in multiple territories overseas. The film is poised for a huge opening weekend, but it already hit a significant mark with its early Thursday night previews with $25 million (via Box Office Mojo). That puts the film on a pretty healthy head start ahead of its opening weekend in North America.
By comparison, Avengers: Age of Ultron made $27.6 million for its Thursday previews. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made $27.7 million for its Thursday night previews. That means that Captain America: Civil War’s opening weekend should very well eclipse the opening weekend for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
In addition, Captain America: Civil War’s worldwide box office tally sits at $291.2 million. So it begs the question if the film will be able to break the opening weekend of Avengers: Age of Ultron. One thing Civil War has on its side is great reviews. The film currently sits at 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. That makes it one of the better reviewed films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This could help push the film toward an opening weekend of $200 million, or very close to that point.
Captain America: Civil War is in theaters now.
