Captain America Is “No More” Says Russo Brothers
At the end of the Civil War movie, Iron Man demanded that Captain America, Steve Rogers, leave his iconic shield behind because it “didn’t belong to him”. And, he did. Also at the end of the film, he let Tony Stark know that when he needed him and his other Avengers, who he rescued, they’d be there.
But what does this mean? Well, according to the directors of Civil War and the upcoming Infinity War, the Russo Brothers, it means that Captain America is no more…for the time being. They told the Huffington Post:
“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” said Joe. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
What this means going forward, especially for Infinity War, is that Steve won’t be in Captain America gear, but he still will have some distinct patriotic clothing:
“It’s always about who Steve Rogers is. He’s kind of an iconic [character]. His look is always an iconic American look. I don’t think that will ever change, who he is. Whether he’s Captain America or not, Steve Rogers is still that person,” Judianna Makovsky told IGN while promoting the Captain America: Civil War home video release. “He’s always going to keep that very simple: it’s not about my clothes, but I do look good, of course. Very American look. I don’t think that will change.”
