Captain Marvel Screenwriter Reveals What They’re Trying To Avoid In The Story
Fans took a bit of a blow when Marvel revealed they were pushing back Captain Marvel back to 2019, and now making her the second Marvel heroine to get title billing (behind Wasp in Ant-Man sequel). Meg LeFauve has been brought in to work with Nicole Perlman on the script for Captain Marvel, and talked with Collider about what they’re doing, and not doing, in the script.
“We have not started yet,” LeFauve told Collider. “We just got the phone call to come over to Marvel. But for me personally, the wonderful thing about her and the challenge of her is going to be that she’s a female superhero.”
According to LeFauve, the real challenge is not only making her a compelling character, but also making it so that Carol Danvers doesn’t have the “Superman Curse” in regards to her powerset.
“And that is awesome because she’s so powerful, and how hard is that going to be because she’s so powerful?” she explained. “We don’t want the Superman curse. ‘What’s her vulnerability?’ is what we have to figure out.”
Many, many, fans are wanting Carol Danvers to get a just interpretation on the big screen, let’s hope this mindset leads to that happening.
