Castlevania TV Series Confirmed For Netflix
Today Netflix revealed to the press its planned programming slate for 2017, and among the newly announced projects and season renewals was this, buried in the release list:
Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017
So it’s true! It’s all true! ….Maybe you haven’t been following it as closely as we have.
The deal is, a rumor has been going around for the past year that Frederator Studios, the animation company behind Adventure Time and some other projects, is secretly working on an animated Castlevania series. They have never come out and said it (and they still haven’t) but when you piece together all the comments made over the past twelve months, it becomes obvious.
Breaking News: I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.

We have a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.

And now there’s this, evidence of a Castlevania show appearing later this year on Netflix. I wonder who could be behind it.
Castlevania is a video game series published by Konami that stretches back to the NES days. It involves a vampire hunter, usually by the last name “Belmont,” exploring Dracula’s castle on a mission to put a temporary end to his life. Then Drac reappears a hundred years later and the next Belmont goes on the hunt. Several games in the Castlevania series are regarded as some of the best video games ever made.
Frederator does excellent work, but it’s mostly been in the realm of comedy. We don’t know what to expect from an adaption of Castlevania, but they’re talented and sharp people. If anyone could do this series justice, it’d be them. Stay tuned.
