Chandler Riggs “Very Happy” With Ending For Carl In Walking Dead
For months, Walking Dead fans have dreaded the arrival of the midseason premiere for Season 08. Because this premiere would mark the end of the life of fan-favorite character Carl Grimes. The death was a major swerve to the narrative of the show, as the character is still alive in the comics. And reports flooded out once it was revealed about how actor Chandler Riggs was “dumped” from the show, or how he was “blindsided by the death”. Whatever the truth was then, he sees fine with it now.
For during an interview, he noted that the way Carl went out in tonight’s episode was good for him:
“I was very happy with the way Carl ended up going out,” Riggs said to ComicBook.com. “After reading the script, it made me feel a lot more comfortable with it and really excited to really show off what I can do in this last episode. This last episode it was some of the stuff that I’m most proud of. It’s super, super exciting to finally be able to talk about it and have people see my work.”
In tonight’s episode, Rick held on for as long as he could, and then pulled trigger on himself so that he couldn’t become a Walker. All while Rick and Michonne, whom he told he loved, was nearby.
“It’s more like an innocent way to go out. That’s kind of what Carl is really embodying in these last two episodes and really just kind of sums up Carl as a whole and proves that he knows that there is something after the war, it’s not just killing and killing and killing and killing. There’s got to be some sort of hope for Judith and for Maggie’s baby and everyone.”
Before his death, Carl gave his father, Rick, a mission on what to do next. It’ll be interesting to see how Walking Dead embraces that mission.
