Chris McKay Talks Nightwing Movie
The Lego Batman movie was a major hit at the box office, and likely because of that, Director Chris McKay was hired to helm a full-on live-action Nightwing film for the DCEU. This comes at a very interesting time in the DCEU, as rumors are swirling of Ben Affleck wanting to get out of the Batman role, and Matt Reeves now hired to direct the solo film The Batman.
This leaves many wondering what role or place Nightwing will have in the DCEU. Will he simply be another addition? Or, like in the comics, will he replace Batman? While these won’t be solved for a while, McKay is talking about why he’s totally excited for doing this film. For he told the Shanlian Batman Podcast that he’s fascinated by the character of Dick Grayson:
“They’re people who live hand-to-mouth and that’s something that informs him and his attitude,” McKay said, noting that “all the same things happen to him,” in regards to how he’s so similar to Batman.
Yet, as he also notes, unlike Batman, he doesn’t let the anger and darkness consume him, he’s a much happier character.
“He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains,” McKay said. “Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie.”
