Deeper Marvel Films Could Follow Infinity War
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is many things, but, there has been some legitimate criticisms about the films. One of which deals with the villains portrayed in the films. Many being seen as “one-note”. The other is that the stories, with a few exceptions of course, aren’t really deep. Rather, they’re a more simplistic journey that at times is very predictable.
The head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, talked with Vulture and explained that Infinity War could change that in unexpected ways:
“I think it’s possible to have more intimate movies after that, or to have more interesting, unexpected combinations of characters after that, absolutely. It never is intentionally about ‘being even bigger […] To us, it’s less about continuing to go bigger with spectacle — although in some cases, we will — and more about continuing to go deeper with those character interactions.”
He does note that though that being “character driven” doesn’t mean the action will be skimped on, Civil War was used as a good example of this:
“Arguably, one of the biggest scenes we’ve ever had in a movie was the airport battle in Civil War, and there weren’t world-ending stakes in that scene, there wasn’t an asteroid smashing into a city in that scene, but there was a conflict between the characters that made you feel something.”
Doctor Strange is out now, and with Infinity War coming, things could be changing very soon.
