Destiny 2 Coming To PC According To Reports
Several sources have revealed to Kotaku that Destiny 2 will make its way to PC in addition to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The leak, which has since been confirmed by various different people, started with a post on NeoGAF that indicated Activision had given an internal presentation about the game coming to PC as well as confirming that some parts of development had been subcontracted to Vicarious Visions – a developer that is wholly owned by the publisher.
A move to PC makes sense for both Bungie and Activision. As the developer has now left behind the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, they need to ensure they can reach as large an audience as possible to keep revenue streams at a desired level. It will also satisfy a large section of disappointed fans who never got the chance to play Destiny on their PCs and thus missed out on the experience.
Destiny 2 was originally due to launch in September, 2016, as part of the contract with Activision that Bungie had signed to fund the game. When it became clear that the studio would be unable to meet that date, president Harold Ryan stepped down and was replaced by long-time Bungie staffer Pete Parsons in the newly created role of CEO.
According to people familiar with the development of the sequel, the team intends for it to be a completely different game from its predecessor. This may mean that it will involve a brand new story and leave behind many of the characters and planets featured in the first title. “D2 is a completely different game,” said one insider to Kotaku. “The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things.”
Meanwhile, Bungie has been keeping fans of the first title busy with a variety of smaller events and microtransactions. They have also recently released Destiny: The Collection, which contains all previously released DLC alongside the new expansion pack Rise of Iron.
