Dr. Strange Affected Sherlock Season 04
Sherlock is a little under 48 hours away from its long awaited season 04 premiere on BBC and BBC America. The show is somewhat notorious when it comes to the long gaps in between the seasons, making it a very atypical TV series. However, as many of the stars have noted, the beauty of Sherlock is that it allows them to do other shows, and movies, in the meantime without feeling “tied down” like many TV series do with their stars. This is especially true for Benedict Cumberbatch, who took on the role of Dr. Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film was a huge hit, and he’s going to be back in Avengers and presumably a sequel. But as Sherlock director Rachel Talalay noted in an interview with Cinemablend, the timing of the production of both was very, very, close:
“Benedict just finished Doctor Strange. He came straight off the set of Doctor Strange onto my set. Because the existence of Benedict as Sherlock existed well before his existence as Doctor Strange, I don’t think he brought Doctor Strange,” she explained.
“I think that Doctor Strange’s humor probably finds some elements in Sherlock. I think it’s the other way around. I think Doctor Strange finds Sherlock, not the other way around.”
Though she did note that one part of Dr. Strange did affect filming on set, the accent:
“Occasionally he did the Doctor Strange accent because of my American accent. He occasionally did his American Doctor Strange accent to me on set, which amused me,” she said.
Sherlock Season 04 airs January 1st.
