Dragon Quest 11 Confirmed For Release This September
Excellent news today for RPG fans. Square Enix has confirmed Dragon Quest 11 will be released in the USA and Europe this fall on Playstation 4 and PC! The English version will be titled Dragon Quest II: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
The US and European versions will be a “Director’s Cut” that includes extra material those in the Far East didn’t get! They include:
- English Voiceover (editor’s note: duh)
- Draconian Quest, a hard mode that offers additional challenges for more experienced players
- Overhauled Menus & UI, with graphical enhancements and more intuitive navigation
- Camera Mode, allowing players to take in views of the beautiful landscape, character renders and ferocious monsters in detail
- A New Dash Function and many other system enhancements such as improved character and camera movement
In Japan there were two versions of this game: one for modern machines, and a handheld version for 3DS that displayed the game in two forms. The top screen was in polygonal 3D, and the bottom screen was a classic tiled 2D representation reminiscent of the series’ roots. This would be nifty to have in the US, but with the 3DS market cooling in favor of the Switch, Square apparently didn’t feel it was worth it.
Speaking of the Switch, there IS a version of Dragon Quest 11 in the works for the hot new device, but that version hasn’t even come out in Japan yet. If the time it took to localize the PS4 version is any indication, don’t expect it until 2019 at the earliest.
Square put out more than just one video showing off the localization: below the trailer are eight minutes of gameplay from DQ 11’s opening. You’ll be able to play this yourself September 4.
