Duke Nukem 3D Re-Release on the Horizon
It looks like Duke Nukem might be making another comeback this year. At least, it will come in the form of what appears to be a re-release of the classic Duke Nukem 3D game. GamesRadar uncovered that there is a countdown clock on the game’s official website. It’s counting down to September 2, the first day of PAX West.
The website says “Happy 20th Anniversary.” This seems to suggest the 20th anniversary of Duke Nukem 3D, which was originally released in 1996. In fact, Gearbox Software recently said it had plans to revive Duke Nukem 3D in 2016. So it looks like Gearbox is making good on that promise here.
A Duke Nukem 3D re-release probably isn’t a bad idea. Duke Nukem Forever was highly maligned. It was not well received by critics or fans. In that respect, offering a new remastered version of a classic installment of the franchise might be a better idea. This way, gamers can enjoy the original game in the best quality possible on the current console generation of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
This might not repair the damaged reputation of Duke after Forever. But it could be a very big step in the right direction for the overall future of the franchise.
