Duke Nukem to feature in Borderlands 2?
In a developer interview with Gamers XTREME, conducted during the Borderlands 2 hands-on event that took place last month in New York, Gearbox Software’s Design Producer Randy Varnell showed a keen interest in the possibility of Duke Nukem appearing in the cell-shaded FPSRPG’s sequel.
GX contributor ‘Glacier928’ asked Varnell if there was any chance the foul-mouthed, wisecracking, all-American hero would be thrown in as a secret playable character. Laughing, he responded with the following (which has been paraphrased slightly for comprehensibility):
“I’ll definitely pass that to the development team back at the office. It’s not the first time we’ve heard that question though. It’s a tricky thing, you know? There really is a kind of spirit in Gearbox. You look at a lot of the games we put out and are working on between Duke Nukem and Borderlands. As a company, we really like that tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top ridiculous humour and all that. That’s certainly one of the reasons why we put our energy and focus on Duke Nukem Forever and it was a classic, ‘close to our heart’ game for a lot of us. Borderlands kind of carries that spirit onto Pandora, our fictional universe. I’ll pass that request along, that’s a really great question!”
Glacier928’s question and Varnell’s answer comes after the 5:19 mark in part three of the full video interview, which can be found here.
