E3 2016: Microsoft Reveals Play Anywhere Program
Microsoft has officially unveiled a brand new program for their Xbox One and Windows 10 platforms known as Play Anywhere. This new feature allows gamers who own digital copies of selected titles to play them on both the console and PC at no additional cost.
According to Rod Fergusson at the Xbox E3 media briefing, this will include carrying over all progress across both platforms as well as sharing achievements and stats. Play Anywhere will also allow players to team up with those on either Xbox One or PC in co-operative game modes.
One of the first games to support this new feature will be Gears of War 4, which is due to launch in October. The latest title in the Xbox exclusive franchise will support cross-play of the campaign and horde mode, though not competitive multiplayer.
“We’ve made a commitment to bring our first-party games to Windows and Xbox One,” Xbox chief Phil Spencer says.
Announced titles that will support Play Anywhere are all first-party or Microsoft-published titles, though Spencer added they were working on adding more third-party games in the future. The full list of Play Anywhere Games is:
- Forza Horizon 3
- Gears of War 4
- Halo Wars 2
- ReCore
- Scalebound
- Sea of Thieves
- State of Decay 2
- We Happy Few
