E3 2017: Spider-Man Game Gets Massive Demo
Ever since last year, people have been wondering how the Insomniac Games version of Spider-Man would play. It was very much a surprise title when it was unveiled at E3 2016, and there’s been virtually no details given for it, until now.
At the Sony Press Conference at E3 2017, they ended the show with a massive 9-minute demo of Spider-Man, showing off exactly what players can expect from the game in terms of both gameplay, story, and scope.
In the demo we see Spider-Man villains Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) and Martin Li (aka Mister Negative) battle for turf in New York. What’s interesting here is that Kingpin is in jail at the time, and Spider-Man doesn’t know about Li’s abilities. Which means this is their first encounter. Mister Negative is actually a more recent villain in Spider-Man’s Rogues Gallery. Debuting in 2007 via Free Comic Book Day, then showing up against Spider-Man in 2008.
As for gameplay, you wouldn’t be wrong for comparing it to the Batman Arkham series. As it’s very free flow but mixed with chances to counter and block, as well as using the environment to your advantage. You’ll see it in full glory via the demo below. The game is set for release in 2018.
