Fan support could prompt a Resident Evil 2 remake
Resident Evil 2 is the survival horror franchise’s most successful title on a single platform. Released in 1998 on Sony’s first PlayStation console, it was extremely well received by critics – so much so that it was later ported to multiple other platforms, including SEGA Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and PC. Gamers loved it then, still love it now, and Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi reckons that Capcom might consider a 21st century reboot if we love it a bit more.
During a Resident Evil 6 Q&A session hosted by GameSpot yesterday, Hirabayashi explained five minutes in that, while the studio isn’t working on a reincarnation of RE2 presently, sufficient demand for one could change that:

“Just to lay all the cards on the table, that way there’s no rumour-mongering and things like that; no, we are not working on a Resident Evil 2 remake as of now. But, if the fans really clamour for it, if there’s a groundswell of support for remaking that game, then I think that’s something Capcom would take under consideration.”

Would you be keen to relive terrifying moments like this in a version of RE2 built from current-gen technology? Let us know in the comments field below – or better still, tell Capcom!

Apparently my rank is now a Fylgia. I googled that and found out I am apparently a spirit companion. Is that a step up or down from Leviathan on most people’s scale? I admit an enormous monster that lives in the deeps and preys on all the human ships and weaker beasties sounds more impressive to me. Someone tell me about cool stuff a fylgia can do so I feel awesome again.

on another note, I never played resident evil 2 – and no, nostalgia doesn’t work for games you’ve never played – and no, this does not fall into the category of ‘You should play this, it’s cheap now’, because it’s over 10 years old. firmly in the ‘tell me how awesome it was and i’ll nod my head and say yeah a lot’ category. if they reboot it, maybe i’ll play it, but not just a re-release for an emulator.

Bahaha. There’s only so many monsters we can do. Besides a spirit companion for The Paranoid Gamer, sounds badass to me.

This guy’s funny… 🙂
Signed, the ‘Church Grim’, a church-dwelling attendant spirit from English and Scandinavian folklore. I enjoy ringing bells loudly, apparently…

I played it when it came out, and Resident Evil 2 sucks. No seriously. It was okay, maybe even pretty great when it came out, but by todays standards the voice acting is bad, the controls are bad and it just doesn’t hold up. Lots of old games do hold up really well, but RE2 isn’t one of them. Plus Crapcom can’t do anything right, especially a remake.
