Final Fantasy Anniversary Projects Get Teased
Dualshockers reports that this week’s issue of Famitsu had some very interesting information pertaining to the Final Fantasy series. In the issue, Final Fantasy brand manager Shinji Hashimoto mentioned the 30th anniversary for the franchise, which will be in 2017. The very first Final Fantasy game was released for the Nintendo console way back in 1987. Hashimoto actually teased some upcoming anniversary projects fans can anticipate.
According to Hashimoto, the first event for the 30th anniversary of the franchise will be a type of escape game in collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV. This game will be hosted in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka. The game will feature 60 minutes fighting mysteries set in the world of Final Fantasy.
More interestingly, Hashimoto teased, “As for other 30th anniversary projects, there are things that will be announced soon, so please look forward to it.” What Hashimoto means regarding these anniversary projects is unknown. Obviously, it would be convenient if this includes the Final Fantasy VII remake, which would be a perfect addition to the anniversary projects planned for next year. There have been rumors that there could be some type of Final Fantasy 30th anniversary collection in the works. However, those are all rumored unconfirmed reports. Hashimoto’s statement didn’t hint at that at all either.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XV was just released. The game is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The Final Fantasy VII Remake is currently in development for PlayStation, and it does not yet have a release date.

Oh now this could be fun. To be a real anniversary edition though, it would have to have characters from across the franchise. They've tried crossovers before, on the PS1 & PSP, and some have been great like Tactics and Dissidia and others, well, rather less great. Ehrgiez was a great idea, but had some really poor game mechanics. If I said I am cautiously optimistic about it, would you know what I mean?
