Final Fantasy XIV coming this summer
Square Enix is planning to launch Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for PC and PlayStation 3 this summer. The announcement was made at the Nico Nico Chokaiga 2 event over the weekend. Square Enix is also recruiting people for a chance to beta test the new title this June; the beta is available on PC and PlayStation 3.
Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG that takes place in a world known as Hydaelyn, a planet that is threatened with impending calamity. This realm that players will get to explore is comprised of many unique and interesting locations, such as a bustling city, a nation covered in forestation, a marine city, and an empire bent on war with its neighboring countries.
Adding to the diversity of this world is the many races that inhabit it, with traits that range from animal like features such as tails and large ears, to impish size, or just plain human. The world of Final Fantasy XIV has plenty of lore that you can read up on as well, with some interesting pieces of history and information about Hydaelyn and its denizens. Whether you wish to discover more about chocobos, machina, or even moogles, the lore is there for you to explore.
The job system makes its triumphant return. You will be able to pick from a number of different jobs seen in previous games in the series, such as black mage, summoner, bard, white mage, dragoon, warrior, and monk. Like Final Fantasy V, you will be able to customize your jobs, integrating their abilities into others. On top of all this you have classes to choose from, with your starting class being either a disciple of war or disciple of magic. As you progress in the game you’ll have more classes at your disposal.
Keep your eyes peeled for more details regarding Final Fantasy XIV. There’s plenty more to uncover as Square Enix slowly unveils the world of Hydaelyn.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever have the time to invest in an MMORPG, or even care to again, but I’ll be damned if FFXIV’s artwork isn’t utterly gorgeous.

After all these years, they haven’t missed a step in that department. I quite liked this image; I figured it was pretty much the best one to use for the article.
If I had a PS3, or if my PC could handle it, I’d probably be tempted to try this game out.
