Summarized,

Active 3D - The TV produces a picture of let's say around 60 frames per second, 30 frames per eye, alternately (left-right-left-right) and without glasses you will see blurred/merged image and when you watch with your glasses they sync with the TV output.

Passive 3D - Glasses have lenses with polarized glass (one in vertical and one in horizontal position) and the TV has different pixel quality for every lens.

Active 3D has slightly better performance but some people complain about headaches while Passive 3D doesn't have such problems but has lower quality.

We have an active 3d TV at home. I'm not a fan of 3d myself. It really bothers my eyes and it doesn't take too long start doing it.

I sure as hell hope so. Sure doesn't seem to be sticking.

This technology is still new, because you can rarely find a 3d movie online and besides a lot of people complain about headaches. I've only tried it at tech stores and didn't have problems but I've watched a 3d projection for only a couple of minutes. I'm really skeptic about 3d technology :)
