Fox Sets Dates for Fantastic Four 2, Wolverine Sequel
All you guys who were hoping against hope that these would never happen and the rights would go to Marvel Studios and the Fantastic Four and Wolverine could team up with the Avengers? Sorry about that.
Looks like 20th Century Fox will be holding on to these characters for a while. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
“The studio announced The Fantastic Four 2 will open July 14, 2017, while an untitled Wolverine film will open March 3, 2017. Fox has also slated an untitled Marvel film for July 13, 2018.”
Personally, I’m looking forward to the new Josh Trank directed Fantastic Four reboot starring Michael B. Jordan (pictured, sort of, as the Human Torch above), Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller, which opens June 19, 2015. And Fox certainly seems to be confident in it to date a sequel before the first is released. And I’ve enjoyed The Wolverine, so I’m optimistic about the sequel.
But, ooh, mystery film. Is there any chance my dream Dennis “Demolition Man” Dunphy project is finally happening? Could it be that America is finally ready for a homeless wrasslin’ superhero?
Nah, probably not. But that mystery project is intriguing. As the reporter points out, it will probably draw from what Fox has the rights to, either the FF or the X-Men or both. A big budget Storm picture? The adventures of Gambit? A Willie Lumpkin biopic? I guess we’ll wait and see.
And I guess the New Avengers movie with Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, and the the Thing all on the same team will continue to exist only in our imaginations.
